Good news for men who would rather drink beer than champagne

World shocking news: there are people who do not like champagne. So what are they supposed to do on New Year’s Eve and all those other festive occasions? Grolsch wondered, and came up with a ruse: champagne beer.

I thought the number of champagne haters would not be too bad, but what does research show? Six out of ten Dutch people are secretly not fans of champagne during the New Year’s celebrations! Half of the Dutch only sip the bubbly on New Year’s Eve “because that’s how it’s done,” according to this same study*. That is why Grolsch is introducing a festive beer alternative this New Year’s Eve to ring in the new year: ‘Finale’.
A beer for champagne moments
Grolsch’s Master Brewers work with other beer lovers to continuously develop new beers in the Grolsch Tasting Room. This produces unique specialty beers, of which Finale is the final edition of this year. Finale is a beer brewed with grapes and champagne yeast. The use of champagne yeast gives the beer the character of a wine with a crisp, dry finish. For anyone looking for a festive alternative to champagne, and for all the men who would simply rather drink a beer on New Year’s Eve. Grolsch is absolutely thrilled: “As a brewer, you don’t work with ingredients such as grapes and champagne yeast every day; brewing this beer was therefore quite a challenge,” says Marc Janssen, Master Brewer at Grolsch. But they succeeded: finally, there is a beer that is perfect for drinking during ‘champagne moments’.
Limited edition
Only 6,000 bottles of Grolsch Finale (70cl) have been bottled. A bottle costs € 12.99 and is available exclusively at PLUS supermarkets from Sunday, November 24 (while supplies last).

* The study was conducted by Team Vier among 1,007 Dutch people (18+) in November 2019.
