Gorillas to deliver for Jumbo

Bossche Bollen, crinkle-cut chips or a jar of bouillon at home in no time? Soon, Jumbo groceries will be delivered by Gorillas’ rapid grocery couriers. Ton van Veen, Jumbo’s CFO, isn’t exactly clapping his hands with joy. ‘Of course I’d rather see customers come to the supermarket.’

You won’t be able to have your Jumbo groceries delivered at lightning speed until the second half of the year, so you’ll have to be patient a little longer. Jumbo recently announced the partnership, but they don’t seem all that happy about it themselves. ‘Of course we’d rather see people come to the supermarket,’ says CFO Ton van Veen. ‘But if the customer says: I want to have groceries delivered at home at certain times, and sometimes very quickly.’ Jumbo already has a delivery service, but then you have to wait a day or longer for your groceries. Gorillas promises to be at your doorstep within ten minutes.

Couriers aren’t happy

Rapid grocery couriers such as Gorillas haven’t been receiving much positive coverage lately. The couriers aren’t being paid their salaries on time, or only receive part of them. The bags are also too heavy, and they experience stress because of the delivery times. In Berlin, striking couriers held a demonstration, and the organization wasn’t happy about that either.

For the customers

Apparently, Jumbo doesn’t care. They are supplying Gorillas with a large part of their range. From summer onwards, you’ll be able to order all Jumbo private-label products, La Place items and various A-brands through Gorillas. ‘We want to be there for our customers, always and everywhere,’ says Jumbo boss Frits van Eerd.
