Jumbo opens special chat checkout for people who are in no hurry

Apparently, there are people who are always in a rush while doing their shopping (yes, quilty), while others are actually longing for a chat. The first group has self-checkouts, and the latter group now has special chat checkouts. This week, Jumbo opened the first chat checkout at the Jumbo store in Udenhout.

Yes, you read that correctly. Chat checkouts are specifically for people who are in no hurry and enjoy having a chat while paying for their groceries. With this concept, Jumbo wants to help reduce and prevent loneliness in the Netherlands. The fact that the special checkout was opened now is no coincidence: 30 September marked the start of Loneliness Awareness Week.
200 chat checkouts across the Netherlands
The idea for the chat checkout arose more than two years ago; in the summer of 2019, the first chat checkout opened in Vlijmen, in Brabant. This prompted many positive reactions from customers. The goal is to have chat checkouts in 200 stores across the country around this time next year. When selecting stores, careful consideration is given to areas where loneliness is particularly prevalent.
It is a small gesture, but a very valuable one, especially in a world that is becoming increasingly digital and faster-paced, says Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, CCO of Jumbo.
