What a wonderful initiative! For the first time, a supermarket is leading the fight for lower taxes, as Dirk van den Broek is launching a petition for a VAT reduction on fruit and vegetables. Finally, one might almost say, because vitamins are especially important right now.

In recent years, healthy products have increased in price much more sharply than unhealthy products. As a result, choosing healthy food is often simply not an option for many people. For years, various health organisations have therefore been campaigning to reduce VAT on fruit and vegetables, but unfortunately without results. Dirk van den Broek believes that supermarkets also have a responsibility to enable consumers to eat healthily. Time for action!

The time is ripe

Under the motto #detijdisrijp, Dirk is launching an online petition to reduce the tax on fruit and vegetables from 9% to 6%. Managing Director Marcel Huizing is calling on Dutch citizens and other supermarkets to support the initiative and sign the petition together via detijdisrijp.

from 9 to 6%

The Dutch general election is taking place in a few weeks, so now is the right time to get a VAT reduction on fruit and vegetables onto the agendas of political parties. Marcel Huizing hopes that at least 40,000 people will sign the petition so that it can be submitted as an official citizens’ initiative. The aim is to reduce VAT on fruit and vegetables from 9% to 6%, making healthy, fresh products accessible to more people every day. Sign the petition and boost your immune system!
