Guinness launches non-alcoholic beer

This one is for the true beer lovers. And I count myself among them, but for some reason I’ve never managed to finish a can of Guinness stout. Because that hefty half-liter of strong, dark beer with its thick, creamy head is delicious, but also pretty intense. And now—first ever!—a non-alcoholic version has been launched.

Guinness (officially St. James’ Gate brewery) from Dublin is one of the best-known beer brands in the world. They’re happily joining the non-alcoholic trend, because back in 2018 they already launched Open Gate Pure Brew Non-Alcoholic Lager. But now, for the first time in history, a 0.0 stout is coming to market. It took a while, though, because Guinness spent four years fully perfecting their first non-alcoholic stout. They describe it themselves as the ‘beautifully smooth taste, perfectly balanced flavour and unique dark colour of Guinness’ without the hangover.‘
No hangover for us
Yes, the no-hangover part sounds pretty positive; it’s also the reason I more often opt for a non-alcoholic beer. I’m a big fan of Heineken’s, but Jopenbier also makes genuinely delicious non-IPAs. That’s right, an IPA without alcohol.
But Guinness has handled it very professionally, because at their brewery they produced the non-alcoholic beer in exactly the same way as their ‘regular’ Guinness, using water, barley, hops and yeast, and then removed the alcohol through a cold filtration process. Guinness therefore promises that the non-alcoholic version tastes exactly like the real deal.
Want to try it?
Then you’ll have to be patient just a little longer. Starting this week, the non-alcoholic wine will be available in Ireland, and from next week in the rest of Great Britain. After that, hopefully some (full) bottles will cross the ocean too! Rumor has it this will happen in spring 2021.
