Heartwarming: this cooking club for widowers helps drive away loneliness

When you lose someone, everything changes. Cooking and eating in particular can feel so lonely… But this cooking club for widowers shows that a meal can fill not only your plate, but also your heart (once again). Cooking together and eating together, because that makes life a little cozier.

To break through loneliness, Stichting Welzijn Lingewaard and chef Willem Cornelissen founded a cooking club specifically for widowers. Here, it is about more than just recipes; cooking together also means laughing, talking and moving forward together. The idea behind the cooking club is simple: bring together a group of men who have all lost their loved ones and let them dive into the kitchen together. The result? Not only a few well-filled plates, but also meaningful conversations and a healthy dose of connection. And that leaves you wanting more.
More than a meal
The cooking club is not a culinary masterclass – although the dishes often turn out surprisingly well. It is mainly about the process: from doing the grocery shopping to setting the table together and enjoying the end result. While cooking, conversations naturally arise about loss, everyday life and, of course, food. The strength of the cooking club lies in the combination of doing something practical and getting to know one another. It is a pleasant place to talk, but also to rediscover the joy in something that once seemed so self-evident.
This really is a wonderful initiative! Cooking and eating together simply make life a little more beautiful – especially when you are alone. No Michelin-starred meal can compete with that.
