These are the worst times of the week to do your grocery shopping

I love grocery shopping. It feels like a legitimate reason to indulge in a little retail therapy. But only when things are reasonably relaxed in the supermarket. So you don’t bump into someone with your cart, wait in line at the checkout for hours, or find that all the products are sold out. So what is the absolute worst time of the week to do your grocery shopping? We looked into it for you.

That’ll save you from feeling completely overstimulated and seriously annoyed. So pay close attention if you want to avoid that: these are the three times you’ll want to give the supermarket a wide berth.

The worst times to do your grocery shopping

There are a few times during the week when you’re better off avoiding the supermarket. Those are Saturday and Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, many people do their big grocery shop for the rest of the week. These are times when many households also have the time and energy to do their shopping; they’re off work and have usually taken care of some commitments in the morning, such as exercising.

Not between 12:00 and 17:00

That’s a long time, yes… but that’s when it’s busiest. Monday evenings are busy because people do their weekly grocery shopping then too. For example, because they didn’t manage to do it over the weekend. Monday is also the day when many supermarkets announce new discount promotions. As a result, quite a few people descend on the store like vultures after work. You know better. You can get those discounts first thing on Monday morning!

Not if you’re tall…

Of course, there are also a few times during the week when you can do your grocery shopping in complete peace. By the way, do you live in Italy and are you tall? Then you’d better take your long legs somewhere else in the morning. Doing your grocery shopping at those times is no fun for tall people in Italy. Our colleague Minne from Italiamo experienced this herself when she made that mistake. So if you’re heading to Italy soon as someone over 1.75 metres tall… Consider yourself warned.

Enjoy a little retail therapy

You can also prepare for your grocery-shopping trip in many other ways. For example, you could easily make a few very expensive mistakes if you’re not paying attention. We’d rather avoid those in these expensive times, wouldn’t you? And did you know that you buy healthier groceries when you grab a shopping cart instead of a basket? There are plenty of ways to avoid all those unhealthy groceries anyway. Look, if you don’t already think grocery shopping is a form of retail therapy like I do, it will be once you come up with a good strategy using our tips. Thank us later.
