True eye-catcher
The Clubsandwich Company is located on Roelof Hartstraat, diagonally opposite The College Hotel. This used to be home to the small eatery La Falote, known for the traditional Dutch food served here. You could eat braised beef, hutspot and grey peas with bacon here; now it’s a hip club. The tables covered with checked tablecloths and walls full of curiosities and old photos have made way for a calm, sleek design. One thing that has remained is the serving hatch, which gives you a direct view into the kitchen. Surrounded by mirrored walls, it’s a real eye-catcher in the restaurant.
Striking logo: with a horse
The logo is particularly striking, featuring a horse made up of triangles. It refers to club sandwiches on the one hand (the triangles), and to the club’s heritage on the other: the club sandwich was most likely invented in America at the end of the nineteenth century, during a horse race in New York.
10 different varieties on the menu
A classic club sandwich consists of three layers of toasted white sandwich bread topped with chicken breast, bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise, naturally served with chips on the side. But that’s the fun of a club: you can vary it endlessly. And that’s exactly what they do here. Owner Laura says: ‘The Clubsandwich Company was born out of a love for the perfect club sandwich. Everywhere in the world, there are only two clubs on the menu: either chicken or salmon, and they’re also impossible to eat because they always fall apart. That obviously had to change. On our menu, each club has its own signature; the 10 different varieties change regularly.’
And making a good club is no easy feat
You might think anyone can stack some bread with a few ingredients in between, but you’re wrong. A good club sandwich requires mastery of all the basic techniques. Crispy bacon from the pan, crunchy toasted bread and creamy mayo. Everything must also be ready at precisely the same moment. That crispy bacon suddenly becomes much less enjoyable when you’re chewing on tough bread. At The Clubsandwich Company, they know what they’re doing, and everything is fresh and homemade—yes, including that creamy mayo and perfect hummus.
Oh boy, those pancakes…
Are you in da club but craving something else? The menu also features salads, soups, bowls and pancakes. And those pancakes, oh boy… simply heavenly! Even the batter is homemade—and you can taste it.

The clubs, of course! They’re unbeatable here. Add the enthusiastic service, delicious coffee and juices, relaxed atmosphere and, above all, the value for money. The portions are genuinely very generous, so be sure to ask for a doggy bag! Just as American as the club sandwich itself, doggy bags are considered the most normal thing in the world here. In my opinion, that’s an extra plus point for this new hotspot.
