Carré opens large summer terrace, complete with urban beach, on the Amstel
Amsterdam has a remarkable new terrace. This week, Koninklijk Theater Carré built a large terrace in one of the most beautiful spots in Amsterdam. The terrace on the Amstel was built on special pontoons opposite the theater, with a magnificent view of the Skinny Bridge.
In addition to the terrace area, a small urban beach has been created on the terrace on the Amstel, adding an extra summery atmosphere with beach chairs. The menu at Carré’s terrace on the Amstel consists of classics such as Holtkamp bitterballen, Caesar salad, a Dutch cold-cut platter (with Louman’s ossenworst!) and the vegetarian burger from Beyond.

With purchases on the terrace and the option to make an additional donation when paying, Carré—known for 132 years as the Netherlands’ leading theater—hopes to secure its future. This is because the theater does not receive subsidies and its income has disappeared in recent months.
Coming to the beach?
The Carré terrace on the Amstel has been arranged in a coronavirus-safe manner and offers space for approximately 60 tables and 250 chairs. The beach area has room for 20 beach sets with 2 beach chairs each. The terrace is open Monday through Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You can reserve a spot at Carré’s terrace on the Amstel here. The terrace will be open until approximately the end of September.
