This is the new hot dog eating record (and it’s disgusting)

Eating competitions: Americans love them. This past 4th of July, a national holiday in the States, the world record for eating hot dogs was broken — and Joey Chestnut managed to claim the title (again).

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is the best-known of the eating competitions and has been held annually since 1916. Every year, thousands of people attend and nearly 3 million people are glued to their screens to watch the event live.
A legend
Joey Chestnut aka Jaws is no newcomer to the competition. In America, they even call the man the legend of eating competitions. Although hot dogs are his specialty, Joey also wolfs down burgers, Twinkies (a small cake with cream filling) and hard-boiled eggs. Luckily, his favorite was up a few days ago, and he broke his own record from last year — 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes — by eating 75 hot dogs in 10 minutes this year. And yes, that’s only one hot dog more, but we wouldn’t come close to matching Joey’s feat.
Different from usual
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the event looked different this year. For the first time in the history of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, there was no audience present. “I started off like a rocket, but in minute 6 I really missed the crowd’s encouragement, and it took quite a lot of effort to get the hot dogs down,” said the world record holder.
