Here you’ll find the tastiest pizzas in the Netherlands

Happy Pig pizza PizzaLab

Oh boy, do we love pizza. Thin, crispy, fluffy, with different toppings and fresh mozzarella as a finishing touch; pizza is basically always good. But where can you eat the tastiest? We crossed the whole of the Netherlands for you, together with our friends at Amayzine, and these are our favorite spots.

Amsterdam:

La Perla

A household name among Amsterdammers, and rightly so: the pizzas here are unbelievably delicious. Any true Amsterdammer and pizza lover will of course already know this spot. It’s always delicious; I could honestly eat here seven days a week. Although after a while I wouldn’t fit through the door anymore. That’s the only thing holding me back for now.

Euro Pizza

At Euro Pizza Restaurant in Amsterdam Noord, you can eat amazing sourdough pizzas with very special toppings. Euro Pizza came about during the lockdowns, and we were immediately lyrical about their frozen pizzas. You can still buy those, by the way, so if you’re craving excellent pizza but not a sit-down meal, here you go! Our Snackspert is also a FAN.

YamYam Trattoria

No fuss, pure ingredients and very affordable. Just a stone’s throw from La Perla, by the way, so it’s a good stop for a pizza tour. Don’t expect Neapolitan pizzas here, but pizzas like they make in Rome: paper-thin and insanely crunchy. Everything here is excellent, but if you can’t choose, go for YamYam’s signature pizza: with mozzarella, mascarpone, ham, truffle sauce, arugula and Parmesan. Pure happiness.

De Pizzabakkers

Pizzerias often aren’t the coziest places to sit, which means they often become a weekday dinner option for me. At De Pizzabakkers, it’s different: super cozy, and their concept is simple. (Delicious) pizza and prosecco. You won’t hear me complain. They have several locations, but I personally like the one in De Pijp best.

Renato’s

Also ideal for a pizza tour, as this one is once again just a stone’s throw from De Pizzabakkers in De Pijp. It’s cozy here too, but do make a reservation: it’s a small place and you’ll want a table, of course. The pizzas here are also absolutely enormous, so skip the starter. And perhaps lunch too.

Mastino

Every non-vegan is about to freak out: a vegan pizza?! Have you lost your minds? I had my doubts too (why on earth would I eat a pizza that wasn’t dripping with cheese?), but honestly: the pizzas from the Netherlands’ first plant-based pizzeria are genuinely DELICIOUS! Don’t ask me how you make mozzarella from lentils, but it’s creamy, soft and really tasty. I’d even dare say you can easily bring a carnivore along…

nNea.

Since opening in 2019, nNea’s Neapolitan pizzas have won the hearts of many. The interior is quite modern, but the pizzas are traditionally Neapolitan. The giant wood-fired oven is the showstopper. And good news for vegans: there’s a vegan pizza on the menu here, and it’s delicious. Smell real Italy, admire the different toppings, taste the fresh tomatoes, feel the ‘fluffy, not crunchy’ crust, close your eyes and enjoy.

Toni Loco

Okay, okay, I’m adding one American pizza place, because those can also be really delicious every now and then. I personally like ordering a few slices (not too enthusiastically, as they’re pretty big). So. Much. Cheese. Delicious. Oh yes, they also offer delivery and they also make very large pizzas. As in: 50-centimeter pizzas. Pizza party, anyone? Or would you rather have the heart-shaped pizza to eat in bed?

Also a sneaky shout-out to Monte Verde on Albert Cuypstraat, because the owners are so lovely and they introduced me to pizza. Not the best, but very fun. And 99% of the students in Amsterdam probably know which place I mean.

Utrecht:

Punk Pizza

Handy: this spot also delivers, and besides pizza they have very tasty antipasti. You’ll leave completely stuffed. It’s nice that they also have a vegan pizza on the menu here, as well as a vegan antipasti board. That makes me forgive them for having a version of Hawaiian pizza on the menu. In other words: the disgrace among pizzas. (Although there’s now also a kiwi pizza. KIWI PIZZA!! Even worse!)

De Pizzabakkers

Yes, yes. De Pizzabakkers have also settled in Utrecht. They need no introduction anymore, because they’re simply just as delicious as in Amsterdam. They now have several locations in Utrecht, so things are going well.

Bastacosi

Several locations in Utrecht with three main ingredients: pizza, wine and coffee. Well, I don’t need much more either. Each location has a completely different atmosphere, so you can go for a quick dinner or take your time. If you choose the latter, be sure to order a homemade panna cotta or tiramisu.

Satriale’s Pizzabar

Neapolitan pizzas remain the tastiest in my opinion. Of course, a greasy American pizza with cheese dripping everywhere is also good from time to time (and remains the ultimate hangover food), but these traditional pizzas are still my favorite. Fun fact: the menu also lists the year in which the pizzas originated. A little history lesson included.

pizza

LaLotta

There used to be a LaLotta in Amsterdam too; it’s now LouLou Pizzabar. I’m not sure whether this comes from the same group, but the pizzas at both places are incredibly delicious – and healthy(er). It’s also great that they offer gluten-free or whole-wheat crusts here.

The Hague:

Vincenzo’s

A super-cute little place that also offers delivery. I would recommend simply stepping inside and getting a table, though. The pizzas are generously topped, which I always consider a plus – can there ever be such a thing as too much cheese? That’s what I thought.

Pastanini

I don’t know how they do it, but for such a small space, this spot has a gigantic menu. That shouldn’t be good for the quality, but the pizzas here definitely get the seal of approval. Traditional Neapolitan pizzas here too. Whatever you do, order the Tartufo.

pizza

La Bruschetta & Co

Very affordable pizzas, although I don’t find this spot particularly cozy for an extensive dinner. But no stress: they also deliver. Be sure to add a bruschetta, because if you put that in your name, it has to be good.

Rotterdam:

De Pizzabakkers

There they are again. I’ll keep mentioning them in every city where they have a location. Are you still looking for an ambassador, by any chance? Hit me up.

Sugo

You can also find this one in Amsterdam (and in Utrecht and Eindhoven). They also offer delivery, and the pizzas here are very tasty. Slightly different from what you’re used to: you order by the slice here, and the slice is square. Ideal if, like me, you often want several varieties and therefore can’t choose.

O’Pazzo

This menu also gives me instant choice stress, because besides pizzas they have traditional Italian dishes too. But okay, pizza it is. You can also choose between a small or regular size. That choice is easier to make; too much is better than too little, of course. From the outside it looks a bit like a tourist trap to me (sorry), so don’t let that put you off.

PizzaBar di Vicini

PizzaBar di Vicini in Rotterdam’s Kralingen district is a top-notch place where oven-fresh pizzas and neighborhood coziness are the main ingredients.

Maastricht:

Bocca Lupo

On the Vrijthof, it seems difficult to eat well (and at a reasonable price), but it is possible. These pizzas are the top recommendation in this city as far as I’m concerned. They don’t have much besides pizza, by the way, but you absolutely don’t need to choose anything else here.

pizza

Bancale 61

I have to say that my pizza-loving heart hasn’t completely found its home in Maastricht yet. I often choose other restaurants there, which may be a shame, because this city absolutely has delicious pizza. Exhibit A: this spot.

North Brabant:

(Yes, sorry, I’m lumping the Brabant cities together for a moment)…

Pazzi, Breda

Breda is my favorite city in North Brabant, thanks to its conviviality, fun bars and restaurants, and therefore also its pizzas. And this is where I eat those pizzas.

Da Lino, Den Bosch

From the outside, it may not look like the most inviting place, but believe me: the pizzas here are more than decent. The pasta is too, if you’re more in the mood for that. They don’t even have a website, so you’ll just have to walk in and hope for the best.

Pizzabar DEEG, Den Bosch

If you want to sit somewhere a little cozier, hipper and more modern (the eye wants something too, right?), this is the place. Side note: lunch here is delicious too.! Very conveniently, you can order the pizzas by the half or whole.

pizza

Trattoria Mangiare, Eindhoven

Eindhoven is the craziest. You come here for the pizzas, of course, but having a drink at the bar is also a good option. The menu changes with the seasons, and you can also get takeaway. And even better: you can also do a prosecco brunch. Oh yes.

La Vita è Bella, Eindhoven

As Italian as the name sounds, the website name sounds Dutch (pizzeria-eindhoven.nl? Really?), and the interior doesn’t exactly evoke bella Italia either. Still, the food is simply very tasty, so you can imagine yourself in Italy a little anyway.

So there you have it: the best pizzas I’ve come across so far. Yes, Gelderland and the north are poorly represented. I’m sorry; I simply don’t go there often enough (never, actually). But that doesn’t mean those tips aren’t welcome; quite the opposite! So far, I haven’t made it beyond De Pizzabakkers in Arnhem and Nijmegen, so I’m very curious where I can get the best pizza in that area. Help me out!
