Hospitality entrepreneurs are furious: Koninklijk Horeca Nederland (KHN) offers discounts on coronavirus tests
The hospitality industry is furious. The easing of the coronavirus restrictions leaves no room for the hospitality sector, and to make matters worse, its own trade association Koninklijk Horeca Nederland (KHN) has launched a campaign that has gone down extremely badly.
‘Does an employee have symptoms? Then book a coronavirus test at Spoedtest.nl. With the KHN voucher code, you get 15% off,’ KHN announced on its Facebook page. To put it mildly, its members are not happy about it.
Missing the mark
KHN has been under fire from its members for some time. Many hospitality entrepreneurs feel that the trade association should have been banging its fist on the table much more forcefully. Not only now, but much earlier as well. All that ‘nonsense with politicians’ has achieved absolutely nothing. ‘They have done nothing for hospitality entrepreneurs for two years, just spineless waffle. We don’t want words, but action!’ says Mariska.
So casually offering a discount on tests now is a real faux pas for many entrepreneurs.
Carmen says: ‘Maybe give 15 percent off the fines coming our way. If we all have to stage the protest ourselves. If the Netherlands still has to keep the hospitality industry closed after KHN’s negotiations with the cabinet.’ #deplankmisslaan
‘If anything, this crisis has shown what a useless trade association KHN is. You keep missing the mark so badly,’ says Renè.
Peggy: ‘With everything that is going on, you post this……???? Unbelievable.’
Which employees?
Joan says: ‘So THAT is something you can arrange, KHN!?!’ Rene also really doesn’t understand it anymore: ‘Which employees? The ones who are currently at home because KHN is doing far too little to get us open again?’ Elsemiek shares this sentiment: ‘Testing staff while they are sitting at home?? Keep it up! What would we do without you

Ruben has had absolutely enough too: ‘You are a bunch of idiots; as a so-called interest group, you achieve absolutely nothing for us hospitality entrepreneurs. Talks with politicians? Zero results, no interests represented… and now 15% off rapid tests while hardly anyone is working, bravo!’
Testing: so welcoming
From the very beginning, many hospitality entrepreneurs have been completely unhappy about the introduction of the coronavirus access pass. Checking people and potentially refusing them entry goes against the hospitable spirit of hospitality entrepreneurs. And now their very own trade association, which has arranged nothing to enable them to reopen, is offering discounts on those damn tests?
Jori cannot believe it: ‘Perhaps you should focus more on getting rid of the pointless QR code in the hospitality industry. What a farce that is. I really don’t understand that you fail to see that what you are promoting now is precisely what is keeping you closed. The hospitality industry will be the last to come out of lockdown and will be the first to go back into it. Strength to all entrepreneurs who do not (want to) enforce the QR code.’
Jannis’ comment is no less scathing: ‘Instead of taking decisive action to reopen the hospitality industry, you come with a supportive message for the testing society. The tests that are keeping us in a pandemic without there being a pandemic. Give it a rest, KHN! Shame on you.’
‘Stop testing, vaccinating and using the QR code… Then the Netherlands can fully reopen! Maybe #khn should focus on that!!!’ Ram has also had absolutely enough.
It remains to be seen what KHN will do with the feelings of its supporters…
