How the famous three-Michelin-star restaurant Eleven Madison Park*** in New York is dealing with coronavirus
Eleven Madison Park is one of the most famous restaurants in the world. In 2017, it was even named the world’s best restaurant, and it still has three Michelin stars. It, too, is now closed because of coronavirus. But that certainly doesn’t mean they’re sitting around doing nothing.
The staff in the famous restaurant kitchen are currently not preparing eleven-course dinners for the rich and famous, but nutritious meals for healthcare heroes. Chef Daniel Humm, who was only 24 when he received his first Michelin star, revealed the news on Instagram last night, after having to close the restaurant indefinitely on March 21, 2020.
Thousands of meals a day
“I’ve been struggling with what to do since we closed our doors. All of our worlds have been turned upside down. We need to protect each other and the vulnerable,” he said on Instagram. Together with Rethink Food NYC, Eleven Madison Park has been turned into a commissary kitchen with the goal of producing thousands of meals every day to feed frontline workers and those severely affected by coronavirus. The project began yesterday and will continue throughout the pandemic.
