How to make croutons

Making your own croutons is super simple. This crunchy topping is the perfect way to use up stale bread and makes any salad better. After this, you’ll never buy those rock-hard cubes from the supermarket again.

Cut your bread (any kind will do) into square cubes with a sharp knife; you decide how big to make the croutons. Put them in a large bowl and add a generous splash of olive oil. Now it’s time to choose your ingredients. You can never go wrong with just salt and crushed garlic. Or try rosemary, garlic and sea salt; Parmesan cheese, parsley and garlic; or cayenne pepper and lots of garlic. Toss everything together and spread out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15–25 minutes (depending on the size) at 160°C, tossing the croutons halfway through. Bon appétit!
