How to turn your garlic butter baguette into a truly delicious snack
I think the garlic butter baguette has been part of everyone’s standard repertoire at some point. Probably sometime between leaving home, going to university and going out with such terrible hangovers that you couldn’t cook, but didn’t have enough money to order anything. And honestly: at Appie they’re 99 cents for two, so you’re only hurting your own wallet if you don’t take them home, right?
A garlic butter baguette is actually always a good idea, even if you’ve since graduated, your hangovers have become milder and you’re more of a kitchen prince(ss). And it’s also perfectly fair to complain, because there’s invariably too little garlic butter in between. But I’ve found something absolutely delicious to add.
Allow me to present: the deluxe garlic butter baguette
This week I was having dinner at a friend’s place, and she happened to have this baguette in the fridge. ‘Shall we?’ she asked, and of course I had nothing against that — except for the meagre filling. But we pimped it up, and it was honestly so delicious that I want to pass this tip on to you. So when you’re at the supermarket, make sure you also pick up some mozzarella. If you want to stay in the same category, you can go for the really cheap kind — but preferably choose one that’s a little more expensive and a little more flavourful.
Simple and so delicious!
Make sure you have olive oil, salt and pepper at home. You could add some extra herbs too, but it should already work with these ingredients. Here’s what you do: slice the mozzarella and place the slices in the cuts in the baguette. Drizzle some olive oil over it, sprinkle with pepper and salt, and put it in the oven.
It sounds very simple, and it is, but honestly: so delicious. Next time I think I’ll also sprinkle some Parmesan over it, because that sounds irresistible too. You can definitely experiment with this baguette, but just adding mozzarella already makes it a real *chef’s kiss*. ENJOY!
