Huh: man eats McDonald’s 3 times a day and loses kilos

Big Mac menu McDonald's

American Kevin Maginnis had had enough. Weighing 108 kilos, he was far too heavy. Time for a diet, then. Which diet would it be? Weight Watchers? Maybe the keto diet? Or the trendy intermittent fasting? No, he decided to go for… a McDonald’s diet.

For 100 days, 57-year-old Kevin went to McDonald’s. Not for a snack or dinner, but for 3 ‘full’ meals a day. So that means going to McDonald’s in the morning, afternoon and evening. And the result is truly unbelievable. According to Kevin, he lost no fewer than 26 kilos doing it.

The secret of the McDonald’s diet

Kevin documented his weight-loss journey with a vlog. According to him, he found his weight unacceptable ‘and therefore decided to go to McDonald’s’. Yes, that’s obviously the first place you think of when you want to lose a few kilos. But anyway, he did it. The man ate everything on the menu. From Quarter Pounders to Big Macs and fries. He just didn’t drink soft drinks. Instead, he chose—very sensibly—water. Oh, and one more side note: he didn’t eat entire meals. He always ate half of every medium portion. The result: a respectable 26 kilos lighter.

Healthy?

Those kilos aren’t the only positive thing Kevin got out of his rather bizarre diet. On NBC’s Today Show, he said that his cholesterol level also dropped significantly. According to Kevin, it all comes down to a simple theory: eating half portions makes you lose weight, while eating three-quarters of your portions keeps you at your weight. Whether you’re putting salads or hamburgers in your mouth. Of course, eating fewer calories makes you lose weight. But does it really make you healthy too? Fries and Quarter Pounders don’t exactly contain the vitamins and minerals you need for a healthy body. No, according to dietitians, there are only a few ways to lose weight and stay healthy—while even eating more. We’d better put a little more faith in that than in Kevin’s McDonald’s experience.
