Italian bartender reveals the ultimate trick for making the perfect Aperol Spritz

Whether you’re sitting with your nose in the snow or digging your toes into the sand, an Aperol Spritz is delicious all year round. Fresh, sweet and lightly bitter, with the flavor of herbs and orange; delicious! An Aperol is at its very best when you make it the right way. We came across a top trick from an Italian bartender that will help you pour the perfect Aperol Spritz every time.

We recently gave you 6 tips for the perfect Aperol Spritz. The Italian bartender’s trick has to do with the last tip we mention there: the ratio of prosecco, Aperol and sparkling water. It’s measured in parts, but how do you know how much ‘one part sparkling water’, ‘two parts Aperol’ and ‘three parts prosecco’ actually is?
1, 2, 3 fingers
Simple: use your fingers! One finger represents one part of liquid. Your fingers are therefore the ideal measuring tool for pouring the right amounts of liquid. Remember 2-3-1 and the order: Aperol, prosecco, sparkling water. Hold two fingers against the glass and pour in the Aperol until it reaches the edge of your top finger. Then hold three fingers against the glass, starting where the Aperol ends, and pour in the prosecco up to the edge of your top finger. Finally, hold one finger just above the Aperol-prosecco mixture (against the glass, of course) and pour in the sparkling water. Indeed, once again, the same amount as the thickness of your finger.
Give it a little ‘stir’, finish with a slice of orange or lemon (lemon is highly recommended!) and voilà, your perfect Aperol Spritz is right in front of you. No hassle with measuring cups or stressing because you have no idea what to do. Your fingers will show you the way!
Everyone’s getting into Aperol
Aperol with prosecco is the traditional way to make an Aperol Spritz. But it’s also delicious to replace the prosecco with rosé. That gives you a rosé Aperol Spritz. A lovely rosy drink, partly because you add rose water and rose petals. If you really want to break completely from tradition, you can also go for an Aperol Spritz sangria. If your party starts to lose momentum, ‘Aperol Spritz sangria, anyone?!’ is the magic phrase. Bet on it?
