It’s proven: a glass of wine before bed helps you lose weight

Colleague May from Amayzine has always known this, but she never had science on her side. That you lose weight when you drink wine before bed. But ha: scientific research, from Harvard no less, involving 20,000 women and conducted over 13 years, proves that our May was right all along.

May: ‘I noticed it myself during my alcohol-free month. Well, sort of an alcohol-free month. Losing weight wasn’t the goal, but it was a very pleasant side effect. What happened? I craved cream cakes, dreamed of Ben&Jerry’s tubs and caught myself saying “yes please” instead of “no thanks, I’m fine” all the time. They could say whatever they wanted, but I did just fine on a glass of wine. And so did my body.’

Red wine before bed

To support her words, May points us to Tim Ferriss’s book The 4-hour body, an uncommon guide to rapid weight loss. May: ‘In it, he says that one or two glasses of red wine in the evening help prevent diabetes, give your sex drive a boost and stop you from reaching for all kinds of “midnight munchies.”

For everyone who is now going to say, “Who the F is Tim Ferriss?!”, I have a Harvard study up my sleeve too. They followed 20,000 women who drank two glasses of red wine in the evening for 13 years. One of their findings was that these women were much less likely to become obese than the women who didn’t drink.’

The moral? Go ahead and drink. At least you don’t have to give it up because you might gain weight from it, but drink in moderation (yes, yes, yes).
