Jamie Oliver gets roasted. Uncle Roger: ‘his egg fried rice is completely ridiculous’

Malaysian Uncle Roger watches a video in which Jamie Oliver makes egg fried rice and wonders whether the television chef has completely lost his mind. ‘Aren’t you a professional chef? With a website and cookbooks? So why are you putting olive oil in the egg fried rice? It’s not a salad!’

Uncle Roger has watched less than ten seconds of the video and has already spotted three mistakes. Jamie Oliver doesn’t use a wok but a non-stick pan, he starts with olive oil and then sautés spring onions in it. ‘If you’re making egg fried rice, you have to use a wok. That gives it the right flavor. Jamie has written 25 cookbooks, but he doesn’t have money for a wok?’ Problem solved, because Uncle Roger is going to send a wok to the television chef.
Ready-made rice?
When Jamie uses a packet of ready-made rice, Uncle Roger is completely speechless. And when chili jam is added to the rice, he makes a sound as if he is being shot. ‘This video, so many sad things happening.’ Does Jamie Oliver hate rice, or something?
Criticism
Jamie Oliver often receives criticism for his ‘interpretation’ of classic recipes. His book of Italian recipes received a lot of criticism in Italy because he was rather loose with authentic recipes. Hans Sibbel explains how Jamie turns a traditional Brazilian dish into a sauerkraut casserole by smoothly changing the ingredients and preparation methods.
Eating himself up with frustration
Uncle Roger is the alter ego of a stand-up comedian from Malaysia who lives in Great Britain. He is hugely popular on YouTube, with more than 900,000 followers. He often watches videos about food; seeing an Uncle Roger who is completely eating himself up with frustration is even more fun than watching a Jamie Oliver video.
