KFC is going to test nuggets made with a 3D printer

Could this be the next big discovery? If I’m being completely honest, I’m still a little skeptical. But how great would it be if this actually turns out to be tasty… This autumn, KFC is going to test its very first nuggets made with a 3D printer. They are hard at work on this project in Moscow, and it would of course be an ideal alternative to using real meat.

This 3D printer specializes in creating biological material. By using cells from chickens and plant-based materials, this printer can even recreate organs. Mind. Is. Blown. I still remember when 3D printers were just starting to gain momentum, and even then I found the concept difficult to wrap my head around. By now, the first 3D-printed house is already inhabited, and they are now taking serious steps toward taking over the bioindustry as well.

And when will we be able to test this ourselves?

Yes, that remains to be seen. Initially, they were supposed to test the meat on 16 July, but that has been postponed until this autumn. The CEO of KFC Russia sees 3D-printing their chicken as a development toward the ‘restaurants of the future’. I still need to get used to the idea that we might soon be eating 3D-printed meat on a large scale. Is this still a little too far removed from your everyday life? Then just go for the veggie options at KFC. I can tell you, they’re absolutely delicious.
