KFC launches spicy chicken bitterballs

KFC kip bitterbal

Say whut? The quintessentially Dutch bitterbal, the crispy pride of the Netherlands, the life of every party, has made it to KFC! That’s right; KFC is launching the spicy Zinger bitterbal today. And to honor the Dutch borrel tradition, both the launch and the temporary KFC are taking place in… a windmill.

The spicy Zinger bitterbal is American restaurant chain KFC’s first quintessentially Dutch snack. The bitterballen are seasoned with the well-known spicy Zinger ingredients. This makes them the world’s first spicy-seasoned chicken bitterballen. The bitterballen are served with a sweet-and-sour mustard sauce in buckets of three, six, and eighteen.

Spice mill

To celebrate the introduction of KFC’s first bitterballen, KFC is temporarily opening a delivery restaurant via Uber Eats together with windmill ‘De Ster’ in Rotterdam. Spices are still ground in this monumental windmill from 1866. The choice of Rotterdam was an easy one: that is where the brand started in the Netherlands in 1972. The Mill is temporarily the 78th restaurant in the Netherlands.

Beter Leven quality mark

The Zinger bitterbal is also KFC’s first launch under the Beter Leven quality mark of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals. KFC had already taken steps in the area of animal welfare by becoming the first fast-food chain to sign the Better Chicken Commitment for the Northwestern European market, of which the Netherlands is part.

Starting today, the bitterballen are available at KFC The Mill and all KFC restaurants in the Netherlands via the drive-thru, delivery, or pickup. KFC The Mill is open from November 10 through 13 between 14:00 and 17:00, exclusively for orders of the eighteen-piece Zinger bitterballen buckets with two Pepsi Max drinks and KFC mustard.
