Life hack: how to save money at Jumbo
Jumbo is my personal favorite when it comes to supermarkets, and I had never heard of this hack before. I saw it on TikTok and thought: if even I, as a Jumbo regular, don’t know about it, I can probably make more people happy with it.
Because according to Sander, this hack can seriously save you money.
Pay attention to the expiration date of products
That’s obviously always useful to do, but at Jumbo it can also mean getting products for free. According to their freshness guarantee, which is listed on the website, you get the product for free if it is still good through today’s date (not literally today, but the day you’re there…) or if the expiration date has already passed. The exception is products made fresh that day, such as bread. Read the terms and conditions here.
At my Jumbo, they always put a 50 percent discount on products that are valid through that day—but actually, I should point out that I’m allowed to take them for free. But there are more ways to save: Jumbo still always gives the fourth customer waiting in line their groceries for free (provided there is a checkout that could actually be open), and if you find the products cheaper elsewhere in a supermarket, you also get them for free. So it’s worth carefully reading through all of Jumbo’s terms and conditions… Because there’s still quite a lot of money to be saved there.
