MasterChef talk: part 4

Every week, FavorFlav publishes an interview with that week’s eliminated contestant.

Justin is the fourth contestant to say goodbye to his MasterChef adventure. We asked this Rotterdammer from Curaçao about his experiences.
Have you recovered a bit from your MasterChef adventure? Have you received many reactions?
By now, I have recovered from the whole adventure. I received an incredible number of positive reactions from people, which I really enjoyed! My social media posts about my time on MasterChef also received a lot of likes.
You exercise a lot; how do you combine that with really delicious food?
Things are going in the right direction with exercising now that I have time for it again. During the filming, things were so hectic that I didn’t get around to it. I notice that I find it quite difficult to eat healthily; I’m more into unhealthy food. But summer is coming again, and of course I need to be ready for it.
What was the ultimate MasterChef challenge for you? For example, was there a particular guest chef you would have really liked to cook with?
The challenge where we had to make pasta was really fun to do. I had never done it before, so it was a challenge. I would have enjoyed developing a dish with Robert or Michiel sometime.
You said Rotterdam inspires you enormously—what exactly is it?
The city of Rotterdam has taught me an incredible amount about life. In this city, I developed into the person I am today. The mentality of ‘less talking, more doing’ really suits me. I am direct and I stand by what I can do and who I am. When I look back at Rotterdam’s history, the city went through a great deal during World War II. Despite everything that happened, the city continued to develop and people fought for what was important to them. I see that in myself too: nothing is impossible, and you have to fight for what you want.
Do you have a must-eat address in Rotterdam for us?
Absolutely! In summer, there is a pop-up restaurant from De Machinist, called De Viskantine. You have to stop by.
