Michelin hands out keys for the first time: top hotels honored

Last October, Michelin announced that in addition to recommending restaurants with its stars, it would also start rating hotels. And with Michelin Keys. France is the first country where the keys have been awarded to hotels.

189 hotels received awards; 127 hotels in France received one key, 38 hotels received two keys and 24 hotels received the maximum score of three keys. Going on holiday to France and need Michelin’s advice? Here is the complete list of French Michelin Keys.
Meaning of Michelin Keys
Just like Michelin stars, Michelin Keys also represent a certain value. In the case of the keys, this means:
One key stands for a unique stay, two keys stand for an exceptional stay and three keys stand for an extraordinary stay.

Michelin Key criteria
The hotels are assessed based on five criteria:
- A destination in its own right: the hotel contributes to the local experience.
- Excellence in architecture and interior design.
- Quality and consistency of service, comfort and maintenance.
- Individuality that reflects the personality and unique character of the establishment.
- Consistency between the quality of the experience and the price paid.
