New favorite drink: the Matcha Margarita

It took me a while to start liking it; I really had to learn to drink it, but everyone said it was oh so healthy, so I persevered and lo and behold: for a while now, thanks to the Matcha Margarita, I’ve also been a matcha drinker.

Not that I suddenly feel a lot healthier now—and of course I find that disappointing—but that may also be partly my own fault. I immediately found ways to make it absolutely delicious, so yes: I mixed it with alcohol.
Thank you, Kourtney Kardashian
All credit goes to Kourtney Kardashian, by the way; this is the cocktail she swears by. This member of the Kardashian family is naturally a fan of everything containing matcha: matcha lattes, matcha pancakes, matcha smoothies… And matcha Margaritas too, which is my favorite recipe so far.
Believe me: you’ll want to make this one too. There are several recipes (even one with green chilies if you like things spicy), but below you’ll find the recipe for the matcha Margarita I like best. It’s also the easiest to make. Perfect for drinks later.
The recipe comes from The Sage Apron, where you’ll find many more cocktail recipes. So if you’re hosting a cocktail party soon, this is the place to find inspiration. I also think their Cucumber Mojitos are mega delicious, for example.
How to make the Matcha Margarita
Equipment:
– Cocktail shaker
– Strainer
Ingredients:
For the salted rim
– 1 tablespoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon matcha powder
For the matcha syrup
(you need this to make the cocktail; these ingredients make approximately 12 cocktails)
– 1/2 cup lukewarm water
– 1/5 cup granulated sugar
– 1 tablespoon matcha powder
For the cocktail
(one serving)
– Lime wedges
– 60 ml tequila (tip: buy reasonably good-quality tequila; it will make your cocktail so much better)
– 30 ml lime juice
– 15 ml Triple Sec
– 15 ml matcha syrup
– Ice cubes for shaking in the cocktail shaker

Instructions:
Salted rim
– Mix the ingredients together and place them on a small plate
Matcha syrup
– Blend all the ingredients until smooth and slightly frothy (about one minute). If you store it in an airtight container, you can keep it in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Cocktail
– Simply rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass to wet it, then dip the glass into the matcha powder and salt mixture
– Add the tequila, lime juice, Triple Sec and matcha syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
– Pour the Margarita through a strainer and voilà! It takes less than five minutes and is genuinely excellent.
