New in Amsterdam: STACH’s croquette bar

The croquette—who doesn’t love one? Even the ultimate food snobs (guilty in the first degree) can be woken up for one here at night. Such a crunchy, thick little stick with that warm, gooey filling… heavenly! A good croquette is worth its weight in gold, people! So good news for everyone who loves croquettes: the STACH croquette bar is open!

And the timing could hardly be better. Because I don’t know what your holiday plans look like, but I’m spending my holiday in the Netherlands, and that typical Dutch holiday feeling calls for a croquette sandwich—one every week, if you ask me. But it has to be a truly delicious, culinary version (because I’m a food snob, as I said).

Croquette with a q
And the croquette lends itself to this like no other snack. It’s the chicest of all snacks. Our favorite frikandel is still always considered a bit of an ordinary snack. Holtkamp even cherishes the formally incorrect spelling ‘croquette’ (with a ‘c’ and ‘q’), although the official spelling has really been kroket since 1995, according to Het Genootschap Onze Taal.
Wadden Sea shrimp croquette, please
The official spelling is used at STACH’s new croquette bar. At the STACH croquette bar, you can choose a croquette made with pasture-raised beef, Wadden Sea shrimp, oyster mushroom or potato peel. The special croquettes were developed by chef Maik Kuijpers using real roux and fresh regional produce from Texel. Eat it in a sandwich (€4.50) or go all out and add fries from Friethoes (€4.50 as well). For true foodies, there’s a more extensive menu.

Get your kroket
You’ll find STACH’s croquette bar at Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 56 in Amsterdam. The croquette bar is open from Thursday to Sunday, from 12:00 to 19:00. Curious about what else is on the menu? Feast your eyes on the croquette bar menu.
