New: KitKat Ruby Chocolate

It’s finally here! Nestlé is launching the pink KitKat we told you about recently in the Netherlands soon. From April 23, you’ll find it on the shelves at Albert Heijn. This morning, it arrived at our editorial office and we tried it for you.

Ruby chocolate takes some getting used to. In terms of flavor, the new KitKat special cannot be compared to its milk or dark chocolate sibling. The pink coating covering the wafer bar has an intense blueberry-like flavor; only the crunchy wafers inside have remained the same.

Ruby chocolate was unveiled by Barry Callebaut last September. The chocolate is made with a special cocoa bean, the Ruby bean. The cocoa beans naturally contain their pink hue and undergo a unique and innovative process to bring out this distinctive color. That’s why this bar is so incredibly Instagrammable.
