No baking paper at home? These are 4 handy alternatives

A home baker worth their salt always has their baking tools in stock and in order to prevent complete baking disasters. But what if you already have your light cake batter for that amazing gin and tonic cake ready on the counter and you’ve run out of baking paper? These are good alternatives.

No baking paper at home? No panic. Although it’s one of the best ways to prevent your cake from sticking to the bottom of the tin, there are other alternatives that work perfectly well as non-stick solutions and that you probably do have at home.
Butter & olive oil
These two ingredients are perfect for greasing the tin, so nothing sticks to it. If you want your bake to come out of the tin even more easily, you can lightly dust it with flour after greasing it with butter. Success guaranteed!
Silicone baking mat
Handy, because this never runs out. Buy one once and you’ll enjoy it for the rest of your life. It’s also nice and easy to wash when you’re done. By hand or in the dishwasher, either works.
Aluminium foil
This is especially a good substitute if you want to roast meat or vegetables. Although aluminium foil is thinner and therefore tears a little more easily, it’s a perfectly good alternative for preventing food from sticking and catching the delicious juices from the roast chicken.
