No discussion possible: cheese is the most delicious food in the world

Adeline loves food, a lot and often, both at home and out. She lives on double espressos, is addicted to popsicles and considers joining Ik Vertrek every week to open a B&B with an honesty bar somewhere in the world. But this week, she simply has to talk about the food of all foods: cheese.

Cheese: the most delicious food in the world

If you banned me from eating cheese, you would surely take away at least half of my joy in life. The other half is good white wine. Take crumbly cheese, grass cheese, Camembert, feta, Chaumes… What am I saying? I even prefer to eat heksenkaas with a spoon straight from the plastic tub. I eat anything that even remotely resembles cheese. Except spreadable cheese. The idiot who ever dared to make that should be forced to eat it with every meal for the rest of their life as punishment. That’ll teach them—it’s so disgusting.

Only melted cheese?!

That’s why I don’t understand people who don’t like cheese. I swear, I was just about to unfriend one of my very best friends because she suddenly said she only eats melted cheese. Wait, whut? Who are you and why are we friends? Cheese is everything in life and more. Cheese in the morning, in the afternoon, with dinner, as a snack, to celebrate something or simply on an ordinary weekday. Cheese is always appropriate, cheese is a reliable companion, and cheese is always delicious. Why wouldn’t you eat it—or worse, “like” it? Cheese is all the support you need.

Bakery sandwich with real farmhouse cheese

Yes, I know the videos of Italians, Spaniards, South Americans and French people making fun of our cheese-topped sandwiches at lunch. Meanwhile, they eat plates of pasta (with cheese) or huge bowls of gratinated French onion soup (with cheese) themselves. I have only one thing to say: then you’ve never had a bakery sandwich with real farmhouse cheese from the cheesemonger.

Being a professional taster does make life very difficult, by the way. On the one hand, you eat everything (cheese!) nonstop, and on the other hand, absolutely nothing. In my case, at least, because after months of eating (and drinking), I also have to diet for months. That’s a bummer, but necessary. So at the moment I’m right in the middle of a cheese-free period, and I think that’s the very, very worst thing there is. As in: I don’t like cheese.
