No meat at McDonald’s: the McPlant burger is now also available in the Netherlands

Big Mac menu McDonald's

McDonald’s announced last year that it would start working with meat substitutes. Under the name ‘McPlant’, several products would be launched. And now it’s here: McDonald’s McPlant plant-based hamburger is now available.

Maccie had previously promised to bring more vegetarian products to the market. Since 2019, 5 vegetarian products have already been launched, such as the Veggie Nuggets, the Veggie McKroket and the Veggie Homestyle Crispy Chicken. But we still had to wait for a vegetarian version of the classic burger. Until now.

Not vegan

The McPlant, made with Beyond Meat, was specially developed for McDonald’s using plant-based pea protein. The McPlant consists of a bun with tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle, mustard, sandwich sauce and ketchup. Naturally, the cheddar melting cheese is not missing either. So the burger isn’t vegan, but if you don’t eat meat, or are simply very curious about what the McPlant tastes like, you can sink your teeth into it. And let’s be honest: this does look promising, doesn’t it?

Tasting

For the next month and a half, you can try the McPlant at almost all Dutch McDonald’s locations. To get as many people as possible excited about this new burger, Beyond Meat and McDonald’s are organising a tasting in seven major Dutch cities. The first will take place on Friday, 17 September, at Beursplein in Rotterdam.
