Chugging an entire bottle of soy sauce

It started with a bet with friends. The 19-year-old boy then drank the bottle of soy sauce that was standing on the table in the restaurant empty in one go. It wasn’t even a full bottle; according to his friends, it was just over half full. After the last sip, the boy became ill, passed out, started having seizures and was unresponsive. His friends naturally called the emergency number, but before the ambulance arrived, the daredevil had fallen into a coma. He no longer responded to anything, and even medication couldn’t bring him around, according to the newspaper report.

Too much is never good

Is that the same soy sauce you simply dip your sushi in? Yes, but too much is never good, as this shows once again. The amount of soy sauce caused the teenager’s blood sodium level to rise dangerously high. Too much salt in your body causes fluid to be drawn out of it. This includes fluid from your brain, causing it to shrink. Life-threatening, in other words.

Flushing

At the hospital, the soy sauce guzzler’s body was flushed with a sugar solution. According to the doctors, the soy sauce was literally bubbling out of his nose. After five hours of flushing with six liters of the water-and-sugar solution, the boy’s sodium levels were back to normal. But he remained in the hospital (in a coma) for another three days before opening his eyes again.
