No third star for Noma

After Noma closed and Noma 2.0 opened, the culinary world began speculating: would the new restaurant finally receive three stars? The Scandinavian Michelin stars have finally been awarded and, unfortunately for René Redzepi, he remains stuck at two stars.

Noma in Copenhagen was named the best restaurant in the world for no fewer than four years, yet the third star is still nowhere to be seen. At Noma 2.0, cooking is divided into three seasons: seafood, vegetables and meat. Redzepi sources all the ingredients locally, but it wasn’t enough to earn that third star. Incidentally, he isn’t the only one: no Scandinavian restaurant received a new third star this round.

Two stars

There are, however, two other restaurants that can count themselves lucky and now play in the same league as Noma. Gastrologik in Stockholm and Koks in the Faroe Islands received their second star during the ceremony. Koks’ head chef (haha), Poul Andrias, won the Young Chef award for his culinary skills at the remote restaurant.

First star

Four restaurants received their very first star this year: Alouette in Copenhagen; Palace in Helsinki; and Fagn and Credo in Trondheim (Norway). Restaurant Dill (Reykjavik) had to hand back its only star (which it received in 2017). Sob.
