Oh no: this is how much more expensive gourmet dining has become this year

The holiday season at the end of the year means one thing to me (and to many others too, I reckon): gourmet dining. I genuinely love doing it so much. Of course, you invariably eat far too much and then have the biggest after-dinner slump ever. And it’s all worth it.

Although… Gourmet dining has become truly gigantically more expensive this year than in previous years. Something to think about after all?
It’s not just energy that has become more expensive
Although that is a truly gigantic increase: gourmet dining has become almost three times more expensive than last year. The average price per kWh is now around €0.70, whereas last year it was still €0.22. So an evening of gourmet dining costs you around €2.10 in electricity alone. That may not sound like much, but when you compare it with €0.66 last year…
And then you also have to add up all the products that have become considerably more expensive this year. In particular my favorite, satay sauce, has become ridiculously expensive: last year it was still €1.50 for 850 g (this refers to the ready-made Remia version), and this year that same satay sauce costs—don’t be alarmed—€3.39. WHUT. That’s an increase of 126%. Ridiculous.
But the baguette, herb butter, mayonnaise, butter and wine have all gone up considerably in price too. In short: everything you need for gourmet dining has become much more expensive. It’s only because it’s so much fun to do that otherwise those prices could make you pretty grumpy.
