Oh yes: you can now buy mini Bastogne biscuits

Bastogne biscuits are essential for the base of your cheesecake or Moncou cake. You could say that the caramel biscuit has by now become one of the best-known biscuits on the biscuit aisle. But did you know that you can now also buy a mini version of the classic?

Bastogne biscuits were actually invented by Belgian baker Paul Parein. In 1952, he came up with the biscuits made from, among other things, wheat flour, sugar, caramel syrup, egg, butter and cinnamon, and named them after the city of Bastenaken, or Bastogne in Flemish. The relatively hard biscuit with a rocky texture reminded Parein of the rugged hills of the Ardennes. Fun fact, right? You learned something new again. Right, now let’s talk about those mini biscuits.

Box or packet?

They are exactly the same in terms of flavour and crispness as the large version. From now on, you can sink onto the sofa with a bowl instead of a packet of Bastogne biscuits. Eating them on their own? Always a good idea. But of course, you can still bake with them too. So head to the nearest supermarket to stock up on a few packets of Bastogne minis!
