On a budget: Dogma

In an old butcher’s shop on Voorstraat, you’ll find Utrecht’s first hot dog bar, Dogma. A menu full of sins and trials, marble walls dating back to its butcher’s shop days, and an authentic church pew against the wall.

Every hot dog has a name with a nod to the church. The Forbidden Desire, for example, is a lamb sausage with bruschetta yoghurt dressing, green and black olives, sliced almonds and fresh tomato salsa. The most brutal hot dog is definitely the Brutal Trial, a beef sausage with barbecue sauce, mature cheese, crispy onions and pulled pork.

Dishwashing corner

A hot dog will set you back between seven and nine euros. You can get a portion of fries for €2.70. You order at the bar from the chef and pay immediately. Afterwards, you take your board, glasses and bottles to the ‘dishwashing corner’, where you can wash your hands at the same time. It may well be necessary.
