On a budget: New King

Amsterdam’s Zeedijk is teeming with Chinese restaurants. Once you’re there, it’s difficult to choose. Although there are many more delicious places, we’re giving you a nudge in the direction of New King.

As in most good Chinese restaurants, you come here for the food, not the atmosphere. The restaurant is dark and decorated in a rather static style. Fortunately, there’s a chef right by the entrance chopping up roasted meat.

When we’re extra hungry or with a larger group, we often order the salt-and-pepper squid or editorial favorite mapo tofu.

Quick fix
We usually come here for a quick fix; the wonton soup is delicious and, combined with the steamed buns with duck, makes the perfect lunch.

The service is fast and the dishes simply arrive when they’re ready. There’s a good chance that not all your starters will be on the table at the same time, but you’ll always have something to nibble on. You can also pick up your food; unfortunately, they don’t deliver.
