Pardon? This Is How They Eat Our Fast Food in Canada
Our snack culture is pretty hard to understand in other countries, as this proves once again. But hey, at least they’re trying: in Montreal, you’ll now find Restaurant Kapsalon, which indeed owes its name to our incredible dish. Only… It has remarkably little to do with our kapsalon.
Besides a Kapsalon (or their version of it), they also serve other Dutch fast food. TikToker Emilie Rossignol-Arts stopped by this new hotspot to recommend it to her followers — but the Dutch people in the comments are mostly confused.
‘This is NOT what we eat’
The comments mainly have a good laugh at her pronunciation of the word ‘Kapsalon’, which for some reason she gives a French twist. But that kapsalon itself… It’s served there with corn, olives, cherry tomatoes and arugula. No iceberg lettuce, no döner (WHAT?!), but thankfully there is cheese, although according to Emilie you can still customize it to your own taste… But unfortunately, that’s not the only striking item on the menu.
For example, they have five burgers served on a waffle: three chicken versions (chicken and waffles isn’t exactly Dutch as far as I know), a beef burger (on… a… waffle..?) and a vegetarian version with spinach. I politely decline. Fortunately, they also have regular burgers on the menu, but I don’t really see the whole Dutch touch. They don’t even have kroketten!
