Petition launched: McDonald’s Netherlands must start selling the McRib again
Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, was on vacation and, on his way home, naturally stopped by the German McDonald’s. There he ordered the McRib, posted a glowing tribute on Instastories and one thing led to another: hundreds of responses and a petition.
@snackspert doesn’t mince his words: he loves greasy snacks just as much as Ottolenghi loves za’atar. He is our go to when it comes to everything related to the finest snack creations (such as where to find the best burgers in the Netherlands), or the worst, and shares this on FavorFlav. But now he is sharing something else with us, and we with you: the McRib must return to the menu at Dutch McDonald’s.
We won’t stand for it any longer!
Because after years of absence, it is time for the delicious McRib snack to return to the Dutch McDonald’s range. Why do we constantly have to drive all the way to Germany? We won’t take it anymore! So says @snackspert and his hundreds of fans.

People want the McRib back in the Netherlands. I can understand that, because it really is unbelievably delicious. This may well be one of the best snacks at McDonald’s. That is why I want to call on McDonald’s Netherlands to add this legendary snack to the range again.’

McRib fanbase
The McRib, the boneless pork chop sandwich coated in spicy BBQ sauce and garnished with onions and pickles, was launched in 1981 and, with rare exceptions, has only been available for a few weeks at selected McDonald’s locations. Much to the fanbase’s panic—there are hundreds of fan groups on Facebook!—some fans drive as many as 10 hours to get their hands on the sandwich. McDonald’s brought the famous sandwich back before, after it disappeared from the menu in 1985. Following a long absence, the McRib returned to the menu in 1994. Yet it never became a permanent fixture; quite simply, not enough of it was sold. So it has come and gone, and hopefully it will be back with us soon!
