Well, finally. FINALLY, the hospitality industry is reopening. And thankfully not until 8:00 p.m.—that is, just when you’ve settled in for a nice dinner or ordered your second serving of bitterballen—but until 10:00 p.m.
Yes, things have leaked once again: the plan is to open the hospitality and cultural sectors until 10:00 p.m. under certain conditions. Of course, it has taken insanely long, and the protests kept getting more intense—especially after it became clear that RIVM’s Jaap van Dissel’s estimates of hospital admissions are even more pessimistic than Buienradar’s forecasts. Quite impressive. But above all: untenable.
In recent times, resistance from the hospitality sector to the lockdown has continued to grow. For example, many cafés and restaurants simply opened—often with the approval of mayors.

A decision on the reopening will be made tomorrow, so let’s immediately assume the most positive scenario: on Wednesday, we’ll be hanging on to the wine.
