Plant and meat eaters unite

A dilemma: you’re going out to eat with a group, and there are a few vegans among you, while the rest really don’t want to give up their piece of meat. So where do you go? At these restaurants, everyone will leave satisfied.

Amsterdam
Yerba
Restaurant Yerba puts vegetables in the spotlight. They offer a fully plant-based menu, using the entire vegetable. For the carnivores among us: each course includes the option to add meat, fish or dairy to your dish at no extra cost. The vegan chocolate mousse is truly amazing here; check their website for more information.

Morris & Bella
Morris & Bella has one rule: we cook with vegetables as the foundation, and for an additional charge you can add a fish or meat supplement. The menu changes every few weeks, so you can come back often.

Meneer de Wit heeft Honger
With a strong focus on seasonal vegetables, chef Simo prefers to put dishes from his mother on the table. Or, to put it another way: dishes from around the Mediterranean that remind him of his mother. You can taste the love. If you like, you can also simply choose a meat or fish dish here. The dishes are robust yet refined. Literally and figuratively.

Den Haag
Maharani
As befits an Indian kitchen, Maharani serves plenty of delicious vegetarian dishes. Think curries with chickpeas, aloo gobi, tandoori aubergine and vegetable kofta in a spicy herb mix. Naturally, the lamb and tandoori dishes are also on the menu.
Utrecht
De Keuken van Gastmaal
This mixed menu features almost as many vegetarian dishes as meat or fish dishes. For a fully plant-based menu, you’ll need to call ahead, but then the chefs will be happy to prepare something delicious for you. Even a four-course menu. The ingredients are organic and locally sourced.

Leiden
Catootje aan de Markt
Catootje aan de Markt follows the shared dining concept. The vegetarian and vegan options consist of various mezze and tagines and make up half of the menu. The other half also consists of tagines and mezze, but with lamb, chicken or fish as the main ingredient. All sustainably caught.
Amersfoort
De Saffraan
At restaurant De Saffraan, you can order a five-course menu called ‘de Tuinderij’ for €59. According to De Saffraan itself, it’s a menu full of fresh herbs, young vegetables, earthy flavors and plenty of creativity. Call ahead to let them know that you don’t just want to eat vegetarian, but fully plant-based. Fun fact: De Saffraan was the proud owner of a Michelin star from 2009 through 2014.

Den Bosch
Yalla Yalla
We’ve sung Yalla Yalla’s praises before. Here, you can enjoy flavors from the Middle East: an assortment of falafel, various types of hummus, flatbread… or go for the surprise menu, shared dining style. This menu can be vegetarian, fish-based, meat-based or vegan, so there’s something for everyone.
Pollevie
At Pollevie, vegetables—preferably local ones—take center stage. For those who want it, meat is available as a supporting act. The Pollevie lamb is excellent. For those who aren’t in the mood for lamb: the entire menu can be ordered vegetarian.
