Oysters are known for their aphrodisiac properties, but the fact that they give your immune system a boost is less well known.

Rain, cold and lack of sleep—these are three reasons why people are dropping like flies from the flu this month. Getting enough sleep is especially important for boosting the immune system, but you can also seek help from food.

Oysters contain an incredible amount of zinc, which is good for you, so bring on those platters. Ginger is also said to have a strong antibacterial effect, so bring on the hot water with this root. It can’t hurt to try. And allicin, the active compound in garlic, helps ensure that fungi, bacteria and viruses have less chance of taking hold.
