BBQStreet; you may have come across the show on 24Kitchen. The incredibly masculine cooking show. But hold on: women can definitely grill a piece of meat too. Still, we didn’t want to withhold this recipe for beer can chicken from the new BBQStreet basic cookbook, because you don’t often see chicken this juicy and flavorful straight from the BBQ!

How to make beer can chicken

  • Light the BBQ and heat it to 100°C. Sweep the coals to the edge of the BBQ and place an aluminum tray with water in the center between the coals.
  • Pour out half of the beer from the can. Peel two cloves of garlic and chop them coarsely. Add the coarsely chopped garlic, 1 teaspoon of sambal, some thyme and rosemary to the remaining beer in the can.
  • Coarsely chop the four remaining cloves of garlic as well. Make small cuts in the chicken and press the garlic into them. For the marinade, mix the olive oil with the remaining sambal and the bacon seasoning. Rub the chicken generously with this marinade.
  • Insert the beer can into the bottom of the chicken.
  • Place the chicken upright on the can in the BBQ. Open the top and bottom vents. Sprinkle the smoking chunks onto the fire. Let the chicken cook through in about 1 hour and spray it with apple juice occasionally. Remove the chicken from the can using a glove.
  • Cut or snip the chicken into pieces with a knife or meat scissors and sprinkle with salt.
