Recipe for a BLT Pizza – and yes, that’s a very good idea!

A long time ago, I often went to Buffet van Odette (then still in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district) to eat BLT soup. Actually, there wasn’t an L to be found because it was simply tomato soup with crispy fried bacon, but it was ABSURDLY delicious. So it turns out I’m not much of a BLT purist, and that’s why I have to share this hit with you:

A BLT pizza! You’ve got to be kidding me! It makes perfect sense when you think about it; of course tomatoes and bacon work well on a pizza base. And the Lettuce, you sprinkle that on top later, because you don’t want limp lettuce baked along with everything else.
How to make the BLT pizza
- Preheat the oven: according to the package instructions if you’re using a ready-made base, and to 250° C if you made it yourself.
- In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, oregano, garlic powder and black pepper.
- Spread half of this over the pizza base.
- Crumble half of the cooked bacon over it, along with three-quarters of the tomatoes.
- Distribute all the mozzarella over the base.
- Place the base on a baking tray or pizza stone and bake for 12–14 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the edges of the crust are lightly browned.
- Remove the pizza from the oven, sprinkle the remaining tomatoes and bacon over it, along with the lettuce.
- Stir the lemon juice into the remaining mayonnaise mixture and drizzle it over the pizza.
- Serve immediately.
