This bacon hack is going to make your life better

There’s nothing better than a good Sunday brunch with perfectly fried or boiled eggs (make it fun with a bagel, for example), and of course: BACON!

But preferably not with a filthy stovetop, or having to clean up greasy splatters—which is where this brilliant bacon hack comes in: crispy bacon from the oven! With minimal fuss! And don’t forget: during corona, day drinking is simply allowed…
How to make crispy breakfast bacon from the oven (and keep your stovetop clean)
- Preheat the oven to 200° C.
- Take a baking sheet with a raised edge.
- If you have one that’s as wide as your oven, it can probably hold around 450 grams of long, rectangular slices of breakfast bacon for plenty of people. Otherwise, just use however much you would fry in a pan at that moment.
- Cover the sheet with a layer of aluminum foil.
- Place the bacon slices next to each other in a single layer, without letting them touch.
- Bake for about 15–20 minutes, until the bacon is dark golden brown and crispy, but check after 12 minutes to see how quickly it’s cooking.
- The bacon will also splatter slightly in the oven, but less than in a frying pan.
- Remove from the oven and use tongs to place it on a plate lined with paper towels.
- Let it drain, then serve immediately.
- You can save the bacon fat to fry something in later; let it cool slightly, then carefully pour it into a jar. Or let it cool completely, solidify, and then throw it away with the foil. Do not pour it down the sink!
Tip: If you have a raised rack that can go in the oven and fits on your baking sheet covered with aluminum foil, you can place the bacon on it as well. Because the fat drips off directly in the oven, the bacon will become even crispier! The downside is that you’ll have (more) dishes to wash…
