Recipe: Rice Crispy Treats with Gummy Piglets?! Crazy and Insanely Delicious

Biggetjes-hoofd-Favorflav

What happens when you melt marshmallows, stir puffed rice into them and then add pieces of candy? It sounds like an experiment from the laboratory of a mad professor, but the result is insanely delicious candy squares. I tried it out for you – and have now polished off a kilo and a half of that sweet stuff.

That was unlucky: when I wanted to try out this recipe, the gummy piglets were completely sold out at the supermarket (‘No ma’am, they’re not in the back either. No, I don’t need to check because I already know. Very sure, yes.’) What now? I grabbed some other pink sweets that are also a little foamy, namely mushrooms. Looking back, I think you could make these candy squares with practically any kind of kids’ candy. I could make them again with frogs, monkey heads or pink Cadillacs, for the sake of experimentation.

Don’t despair

When the marshmallows went into the pan, I was afraid it would turn into absolutely nothing and that I had ruined a bag of marshmallows. Such a waste. But don’t despair: keep stirring and everything will be fine. I found puffed rice in the aisle with healthy breakfast cereals – if only they knew what I had planned for it, but you can also use Rice Krispies. It will make them even sweeter, but that can’t hurt.

How to make rice crispy treats with gummy piglets

  • Cut the gummy piglets into small pieces. You can save a few to decorate the top.
  • Get the brownie tin ready and line it with baking paper.
  • Melt the butter in a pan.
  • Add the marshmallows and stir together until they have completely melted. It will become an unappetizing, lumpy mess, but don’t despair and just keep stirring.
  • Turn off the heat. Now add the puffed rice. Stir together quickly.
  • Add the gummy piglets and stir until they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  • Pour the entire sticky mixture into the baking tin.
  • Within a few minutes, it will have cooled enough to touch with your hands. Press it flat in the tin. Place the gummy piglets you set aside on top and press them in.
  • Leave to set completely for a few hours, then cut into square pieces.
