Thirsty tales

Refreshingly tempting: Limoncello tonic is your new summer cocktail

Limoncello-tonic (1)

Move over gin and tonic, we’re drinking Limoncello tonic this summer! And we don’t even have to mix it ourselves, as the Dutch brothers with Sicilian roots have already done that for us.

Limoncello, the famous Italian lemon liqueur, isn’t just delicious after a meal—it also works wonderfully in a cocktail. Now, I don’t want to sound too smug, but hey, I’ve known that for much longer. A Limoncello tonic is easy to make yourself. But now you can also buy this delicious mix ready to drink. Very convenient on the boat, in the park, in your garden or on your balcony. Simply chilled, straight from the can or served in a glass with ice.

A Dutch-Sicilian affair

The people behind this delicious drink are Dutch brothers Franco and Benno Fiorito, who started making limoncello in 2011 based on an old recipe from their Sicilian family. In addition to Fiorito Limoncello Superiore and tonic, their new ready-to-drink cocktail contains lemongrass and basil, giving it a fresh and herbal flavour.

The cocktail contains 5% alcohol. You can find the new Limoncello tonic at Albert Heijn and soon at Jumbo too (€1.99). Add a board of Italian charcuterie and enjoy.
