Restaurants in Dubai Receive Michelin Stars

San Sebastian as a culinary destination, or Rome, or Paris: logical. But Dubai? Apparently, all the Dutch celebrities go to this city because you can eat so well there. Michelin knows that too: the first Michelin Guide to Dubai will be published soon.

Dubai has thousands of restaurants, writes Michelin boss Gwendal Poullennec. Lots of variety: ‘You’ll find authentic Emirati and Middle Eastern cuisines, as well as international eateries with world-famous chefs.’ Names? We have them: Massimo Bottura, Gordon Ramsay, Joel Robuchon and Giorgo Locatelli, to name just a few, have lent their names to a restaurant in Dubai.
A little price tag
Everything there is outrageously expensive, that’s a fact. If Michelin stars are screwed onto the façades, prices certainly won’t go down. But Michelin won’t be blinded by all the luxury; they’ll continue to assess the restaurants as they do in Europe. The criteria are: the quality of the ingredients, culinary expertise, harmony of flavours, how the chef’s personality comes through in the culinary experience and the composition of the menu. Michelin will also award Bibs, prizes for restaurants offering good value for money. The new guide will be published in June.
