Ridiculously delicious: this CHANDON Garden Spritz cake from Huize van Wely
I wouldn’t call myself a real sweet tooth, but desserts and cakes that contain alcohol always get me excited. From tiramisu (my favourite: the one from Lidl, honestly!) and champagne cake to my latest discovery: CHANDON Garden Spritz cake.
This cake is made by Huize van Wely, and lovers of truly special treats have been able to find this pastry chef effortlessly for years. The orange cake – complete with a crown – was originally created for King’s Day, but the response was so overwhelming that the patissiers at Huize van Wely simply kept baking it. What makes the cake so delicious?
CHANDON Garden Spritz mousse
It is unmistakably the light CHANDON Garden Spritz mousse combined with the soft mandarin crémeux, alternating with layers of sponge cake. Just writing about it is already making me drool… And then there’s that crunchy shortcrust base made with butter… Which is slightly difficult to cut, but that is the only downside.
Perfect combination
Leave your coffee machine switched off, because this cake pairs best with a glass of CHANDON Garden Spritz. Don’t know this cheerful bubbly yet? It is a sparkling wine infused with a bitter orange liqueur made from oranges, herbs and spices. You can make a few delicious Spritzes to enjoy with the cake in no time:
Pour 180ml of CHANDON Garden Spritz into a large glass. Add three or four ice cubes. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and 1 dried orange slice.
