Santé: AIX rosé launches the 2020 vintage
You may not be able to imagine it, but even in the middle of winter, you can make me incredibly happy with a glass of rosé. Of course, it always tastes absolutely best when the sun is shining, but as far as I’m concerned, a good rosé is perfectly fine all year round.
And what do I consider a good rosé? My favorite has actually been AIX rosé for years. Not just mine, either, but also that of many of my girlfriends. That’s how I discovered it too: it was on the wine list, and even though we were going to go for white, one of my friends exclaimed: “we really have to get that AIX rosé!” And so we did (I’m not the most difficult person either), and now I’ve started copying her because this is also what I shout when I see it on a wine list.

Yes, AIX naturally comes from the French Aix-en-Provence, but it is made by Dutchman Eric Kurver. By now, he has actually moved to AIX-en-Provence and, from sunny France, has just presented the latest addition to his winery, Domaine Saint Aix. It seems like a lovely place to stay: sunshine, sunglasses on, t-shirt on, bottle open…
Welcome, AIX vintage 2020 rosé
‘’Never before did our harvest start so early in the year. Climate change, together with the weather conditions last year, led to an early ripening of our grapes. All the grapes ripened beautifully, resulting in an excellent balance between ‘fraîcheur’ and fruitiness. Our earliest, but perhaps the best harvest in our history!’’ says a delighted Eric.
Best harvest in their history? Of course I had to taste it, so I had the perfect excuse to open the bottle nice and early. Now, I didn’t have the right setting (I opened it in my little apartment in Amsterdam, although I did put on my sunglasses for the occasion), but honestly: it’s delicious again. A 10/10. My favorite rosé remains firmly in first place.
Bring on spring!
After one glass, I already feel a little transported to better times, but whether the hospitality industry is open or not (I really hope it is?!); I’ll be getting through a lot of this AIX this year. They’re counting on that themselves, by the way: 15% (!) of all their wine is bottled in magnums or even larger formats. Well, bring it ooooon.
