Over the past few years, the prices of just about everything around us have risen, while unfortunately our salaries usually lag behind. It’s no wonder, then, that many people have to watch every penny. Luckily, there are now apps that make saving money on your groceries a little easier. Do you already know these apps?
Halfway through the month and, yep, your salary is almost gone already. And you’re not browsing FavorFlav for nothing, because you still want to eat well. These 5 apps will help you save money while doing your groceries. Handy!
1. Too Good To Go
Most people may already know this app. Too Good To Go is not only good for your wallet, it also helps combat waste. With the app, you can buy surplus stock from local businesses at major discounts. On the app, you’ll find bakers and greengrocers, as well as the better-known supermarkets. Stock is limited, so sign up for a package in time and you might just bring home a gem. You don’t know exactly what you’ll get beforehand, so it’s always a bit of a gamble. There are plenty of online reviews of boxes from shops by people who bought them earlier, so you can still prepare a little. I’m a fan of this app!
Are you a fan of Albert Heijn? You can go there too: with their so-called ‘overblijvers’, they’re taking on Too Good To Go in their own app. They have an option for buying products that are almost past their best-before date. You’ll find it in the Albert Heijn app under the heading overblijvers.
2. Slim Koken
When it comes to saving money on groceries, it’s not just about what you buy. It’s also important not to waste the groceries you’ve purchased. The Slim Koken app from the Nutrition Centre can help with that. You’ll find lots of recipes in this app, as well as tips for keeping your groceries fresh for longer and for turning your leftovers into a delicious new dish. Very handy when you’re short on inspiration.
3. Tikkie
Everyone knows the Tikkie app as the app for making payments. (Can we stop sending Tikkies after a coffee, please!) What I didn’t know is that you can also regularly find discounts here. New promotions and discounts on products regularly appear under the ‘deals’ heading. Usually, you have to buy the products first and get the money back after uploading your receipt. It’s only a few products at a time, but the app is already on your phone anyway. From now on, check the available promotions online before you go to the shop.
4. AlleFolders
A traditional way to save money is to buy certain products only when they’re on sale. (Does anyone buy laundry detergent at full price?) To find out which products are on sale, you have to go through all the flyers, which takes hours. Don’t do that anymore; the AlleFolders app collects all the promotional flyers in one place. You can easily put the offers into an overview for when you go shopping. You can also receive notifications about promotions from shops in your area. Handy, right?
5. Scoupy
In the Scoupy app, you can find all kinds of discounts on products that aren’t on sale in supermarkets themselves. Just like in the Tikkie app, you buy the product, take a photo of the receipt and submit it through the app. The money for the products included in Scoupy’s promotions is then refunded to your account. The advantage of this app is that the range of products you can get a discount on is much larger. You also get discounts at some online shops through the Scoupy app.
